ANTF arrests two drug peddlers with 8.5 Kg Charas-like substance

JAMMU, Jan 30: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Jammu and Kashmir, today arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered 8.5 kilograms of Charas-like contraband from their possession.
Officials said acting on specific and credible intelligence, a team of ANTF intercepted a Santro car bearing registration number DL10CA-9852 at the Sidhra Bypass.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, around 8.5 kilograms of Charas-like contraband substance was recovered, they said.
Accordingly, both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and the car used for transporting the contraband was seized, officials said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gurmeet Singh (50) of Ward No. 2, Simbal Camp, Dhindey Kalan, R.S. Pura, at present Indra Nagar, Miran Sahib, and Parvinder Kour (37) of Simbal Camp, Dhindey Kalan, R.S. Pura, Miran Sahib, Jammu.
Quoting preliminary investigations, officials said it has come to the fore that the accused were allegedly transporting the contraband from Kashmir to Jammu for further illegal distribution.
On the basis of the recovery, a case FIR No. 01/2026 has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation has been set into the motion to trace the source of the recovered charas and to identify both forward and backward linkages of the narcotics network involved in the case.
Officials said efforts are being intensified to dismantle the entire supply chain and to identify other persons involved in drug trafficking activities.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DySP ANTF Ravinder Singh Rakwal and SSP ANTF Anwar ul Haq.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the ANTF has appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any information related to drug trafficking to help curb the growing menace of drugs in the Union Territory.
