JAMMU, Dec 29: The NZ IAPSMCON 2025, a two-day annual conference of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM), North Zone Chapter, concluded at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
The conference was jointly organized by the Departments of Community Medicine of six medical colleges from the Jammu region, namely GMC Doda, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) Katra, GMC Udhampur, Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS), GMC Jammu and AIIMS Vijaypur.
The central theme of the conference was “Prevention vs Cure: Where Do We Stand?”. The Conference was formally inaugurated by Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary, Health and Medical Education, who joined the inaugural session virtually. The occasion was further graced by the presence of Baseer Ul Haq, MD National Health Mission (NHM), Dr Devraj Dogra, Officiating Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Ashok Kumar Bhardwaj, president IAPSM, Maj Gen Dr Atul Kotwal, president-elect IAPSM, Dr Pooja Goyal, president NZ-IAPSM and Dr Sarit Sharma, secretary NZ-IAPSM.
With the participation of over 120 registered delegates, the academic program was both comprehensive and engaging. The conference featured 15 expert speakers who deliberated on key public health issues, including non-communicable diseases, cancers, vaccines, preventive oncology, nutrition, and other emerging areas of public health importance.
The program also included two insightful panel discussions-one centered on the conference theme, “Prevention vs Cure: Where Do We Stand?”, and the other focusing on “Research in Medical Education.”
An enthusiastic postgraduate quiz further added to the academic vibrancy of the event with five teams representing different medical colleges competing. The team from AIIMS Vijaypur emerged as the winner.
Nearly 30 oral scientific papers along with an equal number of scientific posters were presented. Following the academic sessions, a General Body Meeting of IAPSM members was held.
Organizing secretaries Dr Kiran Bala, Dr Bhavna Langer, Dr Rashmi Gupta, Dr Shalini Sobti and Dr Suresh Kotwal, and faculty members Dr Kamna Singh, Dr Walied Balwan, Dr Anuj Kapoor, Dr Imran and Dr Anzar ensured smooth conduct of the event.
