Anjel death highlights challenges faced by NE people in some parts of country: Mizoram CM

AIZWAL, Dec 30: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has condemned the murder of a Tripura student in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun over alleged racial violence and said discrimination has no place in the country’s Constitution.
He said the murder of 24-year-old Anjel Chakma reflects the persistent discrimination and prejudice faced by people from the Northeast in some parts of the country.
“Deeply saddened by the death of a student from Tripura in Dehradun. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. This tragedy highlights the continuing challenges faced by people from the North East in parts of mainland India,” Lalduhoma said in a post on X on Monday.
“Discrimination and racial prejudice have no place in our Constitution, and the rule of law must prevail to ensure justice,” he added.
Anjel, a resident of Machmara in Unakoti district, had gone to Dehradun after completing his graduation from Holy Cross School, Agartala, to pursue an MBA. He was attacked by a group of youths in the presence of his younger brother, Michael, and succumbed to his injuries on December 26 after battling for life for 17 days. (PTI()
