Srinagar, Sept 5: Security guards of three Ministers fired in air after the locals at Pantha Chowk pelted stones at their cavalcades.
Three Ministers, Chowdhry Muhammad Ramzan, Sakina Itoo and Mir Saifullah were on their way to South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to assess the flood situation when a group of angry people pelted stones at their cavalcades in Pantha Chowk.
Residents of Pantha Chowk alleged that Government didn’t pay heed to their repeated requests when they were trapped in the flash floods since Thursday. People pelted stones at the cavalcade leading to chaos and confusion.
Two Scorpios were damaged in stone pelting. However, nobody was hurt.
In the meantime, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, G M Dar, said here that a group of police officers along with their subordinates beat them up when they refused to provide them rescue boats meant for flood affected people near Nehru Park Srinagar this morning.
The ADC and other officers protested against police in Press Enclave and demanded action against the police officials.
“I along with Tehsildar Srinagar, Shafiq Wafayi, reached Nehru Park at 6 a.m. to provide boats to flood affected people. SDPO Nehru Park Vinod Kumar, SHO Ram Munshi Bagh Sabzar Ahmed, DO Nehru Park Reyaz Ahmed along with their subordinates demanded boats from us. As we refused to provide them boats they pounced on me and all the officers not only abused me but hit me with gun butts and lathis. They kicked me and when Tehsildar Srinagar tried to save me, they beat him as well,” ADC said.
“We have brought the matter into the notice of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir”, said ADC.
SDPO Nehru Park, Vinod Kumar, termed the allegations baseless and said that no police officer thrashed any district administration official.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Rohit Kansal assured the victim officials that stern action will be initiated against the cops responsible for the assault.
SSP Srinagar, Amit Kumar, said they have ordered an immediate inquiry into the allegations leveled by top administrative officials.
