“We have served our department on a small amount from more than last three decades, now Government should provide us social security”, Hajra Begam, a senior Anganwadi worker said.
She said the Government has recruited hundreds of supervisors during the last few years in the department in their place.
The members of All Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, alleged that neither the higher authorities have released funds for Anganwadi workers, helpers nor the functionaries in CDPO and District Social Welfare Offices (DSWO) have ever paid their wages on time.
The protesters maintained that if their demands are not fulfilled they will go for dharna from February 15.
The protesters also demanded that Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo being a woman should take the problems of Anganwadi workers seriously and implement the models of Social Welfare Departments of Arunachal Pradesh and Pondicherry.
