Anganwadi workers demand increase in salary

JAMMU, May 23: Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association, a unit of BMS, has urged the Central Government for increase in salary of Anganwadi workers and helpers at Rs 15000 and Rs 10000 per month, as has been done in other states of the country.
Talking to media persons Ashok Choudhary, general secretary BMS, said that the workers have been demanding from the past several years that State’s share be increased as all other states have increased the wages of workers.
They have also been pressing that their wages be paid month wise and maintenance of proper salary book as also improvement in the system as there were many short comings from the administration. The association also opposed the six hour duty till their salary was increased and exploitation of workers stopped once for all.
They demanded that tripartite grievances committee be constituted as per ICDS scheme to solve day to day problems of the workers at district and State level. They also called for improvement in nutrition system by supplying good nutrition at all Anganwadi centres with all complete items. They demanded that nutrition be given quarterly with carriage charges and TA and DA to attend the meetings.
The AWWA leaders also demanded increase in fuel charges, social security, pension scheme, ESI, EPF etc for welfare of Anganwadi workers and helpers.
Others in the press conference included Swarna Choudhary (president) and Neelam Sharma (general secretary) of of AWWA and BMS leaders Lakshman Ravinder Singh, Koushalya Devi, Sushma Devi, Anju Devi, Jyoti Devi, Soma Devi, Kamlesh Kumari, Chintpourni and Parsino Devi.
