JAMMU, Nov 28: Chairperson of Waqf Development Committee of Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi and FICCI J&K Chairperson, Rani Ritu Singh flagged off a marathon race from Hari Niwas Palace, here today.
The 13 km marathon was organised by FICCI for giving the message of women’s empowerment in the society which was attended by hundreds of women from Jammu and a few male runners also participated in the race in solidarity with the women power.
Rani Ritu Singh said that FICCI has been working in the region for women empowerment and a fit and healthy society for many years, while Dr Darakhshan Andrabi said that women in modern times have proved by their power and ability that they were not any more desperate and weak creatures but were the real support of the society.
“Women have broken the myth of ‘Abla Nari’ as they are now in a commanding position in society. The Government schemes and programmes have also empowered them greatly. Indian women have shown their mettle in every sphere of life,” said Dr Andrabi.
She further said that education and information mechanisms have equipped Indian women with awareness about their rights and their capabilities, but still much needs to be done. “Indian women power fetched honours to us at Tokyo Olympics recently,” she added.
“Sportspersons like young Ankita Raina are an inspiration for young girls of J&K and we all need to encourage talented girls in J&K to excel in different sports events so that on one hand they feel empowered and on the other hand more women of UT get inspired to fulfil their dreams at national and international platforms,” Andrabi said.
Dr Darakhshan also hailed the efforts of FICCI and its chairperson for doing great service on ground for women empowerment in J&K.
Many prominent citizens and personalities were present on the occasion.
