JAMMU, Mar 13: Special Secretary, Transport Department with Additional Charge of J&K Road Safety Council Amit Sharma made a maiden visit to the Regional Office Complex of J&K State Motor Garages here today.
Director Garages Zakir Hussain, Deputy Director Garages Syed Muarif Andrabi, Deputy Secretary Transport Muzaffar, Under Secretary Transport Chandeep Singh and others were present on the occasion.
During the inspection-cum-review visit, Special Secretary Amit Sharma took a comprehensive round of the entire complex of J&K State Motor Garages alongwith Director J&K SMG and others wherein the a tour of workshops, paint shops, stores, 24×7 functional office room, drivers welfare facilities, washing and cleaning facilities, etc was undertaken by him.
He pointed out important areas on the spot wherein scope of improvement was there which were noted down by the SMG team and Administrative Department officers. Apart from this, he took a review of functioning of SMG in all the three divisions of the State and noted down critical points wherein immediate intervention of the Government is required.
Most important areas flagged for immediate redressal by Amit Sharma included acquisition of land at Ramban district for creating SMG facility there as it is almost midway point for traffic movement between two capital cities Jammu and Srinagar and it would serve as a perfect halt point for official vehicles and help in provision of round-the -clock services to several Government vehicles who pass through it.
Apart from this, during the tour of complex, Amit pointed out that divisional-level Survey Committees have to be re-constituted at the earliest for disposal of huge quantum of non-usable lubricants lying in both Jammu and Srinagar as the same contain dangerous flammable materials which pose a major threat/risk and require immediate disposal. Also, the issue for filling-up of lot of vacancies of drivers, and technical staff in SMG was discussed and he assured that the same shall be taken-up with J&K SSB and concerned recruitment agencies.
Amit emphasized that there should be total automation of operations of SMG including implementation of ERP-based solutions, GPS-enablement of SMG vehicles and he directed to take-up all IT-related issues with NIC and other related agencies for finding a time-bound solution to these much needed e-Governance reforms which are the need of the hour.
