Amira Kadal footbridge to be completed by May: Athar

SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Aiming to improve pedestrian and vehicular movement in Lal Chowk, several works are currently underway, including the construction of the Amira Kadal footbridge and the redesigning of Jehangir Chowk.
While providing details about the projects, Athar Amir, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited, stated that the Amira Kadal footbridge is being built on the remnants of the former wooden Amira Kadal Bridge, aiming streamlining of movements.
He emphasized that the goal is to integrate pedestrian space in Lal Chowk and Goni Khan with the upcoming bridge, focusing solely on enhancing pedestrian movement in the city center.
“While it is being constructed on the existing remnants of the old bridge, we are also building new ones on both sides. The work is in progress, and we expect to complete it by the end of May,” he said.
On the other side of the Jhelum River, Athar mentioned that work is ongoing from the LD and Goni Khan side, highlighting the progress in sewage, drainage, and the undergrounding of the electricity setup.
“It is set to become another extensive pedestrian space in the city, planned along the lines of Polo View, where necessary measures have been taken to streamline pedestrian and vehicular movement,” he added, noting its integration with Hari Singh High Street.
Regarding Jehangir Chowk, currently undergoing necessary works for facelift and redesigning, Athar reiterated the aim to streamline both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
“This spot, perhaps the busiest area in the city, is undergoing redesigning in line with the needs and the vision of the smart city,” he stated.
Concerning the completion of the Balidan Stamb at Pratap Park, Athar, acknowledging its significance for those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, mentioned that the works are currently ongoing. “In the next three months, we will witness its completion,” he concluded.
