AMCCC highlights plight of migrant contractors

JAMMU, June 23: All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AMCCC) today alleged that the poor and deserving migrant contractors were ignored in allotment of work in the Relief organization despite the fact that they have lost all avenues of livelihood after their mass exodus from Valley in 1989-90.
Recalling the commitment made by Chief Minster, Mehbooba Mufti during her visit to the camps last time where she announced that the migrant contractors will be allotted the construction work to earn their livelihood, president AMCCC Desh Rattan alleged that engineers totally ignored the small and deserving contractors while making the allotment of work.
He said there is a brewing resentment among the migrant contractors who have no other source of income as they deserve to be given preference in allotment of work in the organization. He said the community has suffered a lot after the mass exodus as they lost their entire property in Valley but no efforts were made on the part of the Government to provide any succor to it later on and promises made from time to time were never fulfilled.
