GUWAHATI, June 22 : The annual Ambubachi festival started at the Ma Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on Sunday.
The Ambubachi Mahayog started at 2 .56 pm on Sunday and with this the temple authority closed the sanctum Sanctorium of the temple.
The sanctum Sanctorium of the temple will be closed till June 25 and the authorities will open the sanctum Sanctorium on June 26 morning. The Ambulance Mahayog is believed to be the menstrual period of Mother Goddesses Kamakhya. The Hindus do not till their lands and do not do any auspicious works during the Ambubachi.
Meanwhile, lakhs of devotees have thronged the Kamakhya temple located atop Nilachal Hills on Sunday due to the Ambubachi.
“Today marks the beginning of the #Ambubachi Mahayog, an annual celebration of Maa Kamakhya’s divine femininity.
Spiritual Gurus and devotees from across the country will dawn upon the sacred Nilachal Hills to pray for Bharat.
I welcome all pilgrims to Assam & wish everyone a divine experience and the choicest blessings of Maa Kamakhya,” said Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on his X handle welcoming all the devotees to the temple.
It may be mentioned here that the district administration of Kamrup Metro district along with the Kamakhya temple authority has taken up adequate steps to ensure the smooth sailing of the event.
The administration however, had said that only one way entry to the temple this time. The entry point from Pandu side will be closed. The administration had also arranged for time restriction from 5 am to 6 pm every day during the Ambubachi festival. These steps are being taken to control the rush as there are several locations identified as landslide prone.
