RAJOURI, Jan 31: Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmed today laid the foundation stone of 22 new roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and inaugurated 7 completed PMGSY roads in Rajouri district, giving a major push to rural connectivity and infrastructure development in the region.
The programme was attended by Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Rajouri, Naseem Liyait, MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed, MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, and MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary, along with senior district officers, PMGSY engineers, public representatives, and a large number of local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Mian Altaf reiterated the Government’s strong commitment towards inclusive and balanced development. He stated that improved road connectivity is a key driver for socio-economic growth, especially in border and hilly areas, as it ensures better access to education, healthcare, markets, and employment opportunities.
The MP further informed that the ongoing National Highway project connecting Jammu to Poonch is progressing steadily and will be completed soon, which will significantly reduce travel time and boost trade, tourism, and economic activities in the Pir Panjal region.
Altaf emphasized that he is regularly monitoring various developmental projects in Rajouri and Poonch districts. He said that he frequently visits these areas to personally review ongoing works, ensure quality execution, and resolve issues at the ground level, adding that his primary focus remains the overall and sustainable development of Rajouri and Poonch.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion stressed the importance of timely completion of projects and maintaining high construction standards. They appreciated the continued efforts being made to upgrade infrastructure in remote and underserved areas.
The local residents expressed gratitude to the MP and other elected representatives for addressing long-pending demands related to road connectivity.
