LUCKNOW, Nov 28: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that along with the spirit of competition, the spirit of co-operation is a must for strengthening the nation and society.
President Murmu was speaking at the closing ceremony of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Bharat Scouts and Guides and its 19th National Jamboree in Lucknow on Friday.
“During the Jamboree, a number of competitions are being organised. From every competition, we get to learn new things. The team spirit gets strengthened, and it also inspires us to work harder. But, along with the spirit of competition, the spirit of co-operation is a must for the strengthening of the nation and society,” she said.
Drawing the attention of the youth towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, Murmu said, “Today, India stands at a crucial juncture in its development journey. We have before us the goal of achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. This is possible only if 65 per cent of our population, which is under the age of 35, makes a determined effort to achieve this goal.”
She said the government is making efforts to provide a suitable platform for the youth. Initiatives like ‘Mera Yuva’, which is dedicated to empowering the youth and channelling their energy for nation-building, are crucial.
Murmu also said, “Today, there are more than 63 lakh Scouts and Guides in India. Bharat Scouts and Guides is among the largest Scouts and Guides organisations in the world. In this organisation, the number of Guides, ie girls, is more than 25 lakh, which is a significant achievement.”
Praising them, the president said, “I would congratulate all daughters who had opted for the path of discipline, dedication and continuous progress for the welfare of society and humanity.”
The president also said, “The motto of Scouts and Guides is ‘Be Prepared’. This means that you must be prepared to face all the challenges that lie ahead. You must develop the ability to face any challenge with determination and confidence, without fear. I believe you can develop such abilities by developing all kinds of skills. Be it technical skills, communication skills, team coordination, problem-solving skills, or leadership abilities, all will be helpful in your life.”
Murmu also said that today the entire world is grappling with the problem of environmental imbalance. “We can overcome this problem by making environment friendly ideals an integral part of our lives,” she said.
“If all young people move forward in life, embracing the Scouts and Guides’ principle of being ‘friends of nature’, our planet will become greener and more prosperous,” she said. She also said that Bharat Scouts and Guides has been motivating the youth in the right direction, and making them active participants in nation-building for the last 75 years.
The president further said that the scouts’ greatest strength is their spirit of service. Whether it’s a flood, an earthquake, or an epidemic, the Scouts and Guides are always at the forefront of providing assistance, she said.
The president said that the youth are both the architects of the country’s future and the guardians of its great cultural and civilisational traditions. A strong and sensitive individual can empower and sensitise many others, just like a lamp lights several other lamps, she added.
On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister of Mizoram Lalduhoma, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers of UP Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak were present. (PTI)
