All schools, colleges in border districts to remain closed today

JU, KU postpone exams scheduled up to May 10

JAMMU, May 7: In view of the prevailing war like situation with Pakistan, administration has ordered closure of all the educational institutions in eight border districts while the universities have also postponed all the exams scheduled up to May 10.

As per the Government direction, all educational institutions in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez valley of Bandipora district will remain closed tomorrow.
Besides, schools around Srinagar Airport and Awantipora air base will also remain closed tomorrow.
According to Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, all the schools, colleges and educational institutions (private as well as Government) in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed on May 8 also.
Similarly, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said that schools and colleges in Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez valley shall remain closed on Thursday.
Pertinent to mention that authorities on Wednesday had ordered closure of educational institutions in these eight border districts of Jammu and Kashmir divisions as a precautionary measure, early this morning after Indian Armed Forces carried out missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir.
Meanwhile, due to the prevailing uncertain situation and keeping safety of students, University of Jammu as well as University of Kashmir have ordered postponement of all the examinations scheduled to be held from May 8 to May 10, 2025.
Sanjeev Mahajan, Controller of Examination, JU, told the Excelsior that fresh dates for the postponed UG examinations shall be notified separately. “All college Principals have been requested to act accordingly and remain in touch with the university for further updates, if any,” he added.
The University of Kashmir also notified that all examinations of KU, scheduled to be held upto and including May 10th, 2025, stand postponed and fresh dates for the postponed papers will be notified separately.
Cluster University Srinagar had also postponed all examinations scheduled for May 7.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert, stay calm, and follow official advisories as a precautionary measure. In retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes early Wednesday on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Toiba’s base Muridke.
