All-party meeting on Kashmir underway in capital

NEW DELHI : An all-party meeting on Kashmir got underway here to discuss the future agenda in the light of the assessment of the situation in the state by a delegation that visited the Valley last week.
Union Home Minister Minister Rajnath Singh had yesterday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the outcome of the All-Party Delegation that went there as part of efforts to bring peace to the trouble-torn State.
The Home Minister also held consultations on the turbulent situation in the Valley with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, BJP chief Amit Shah and Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh, who hails from Kashmir. Mr Singh had led the all-party delegation to Jammu and Kashmir on September 4 to meet stakeholders.
However, the Centre and the PDP-led state government had not extended formal invitation for talks to Hurriyat leaders.
The separatists rebuffed some MPs who had tried to meet them in their individual capacity. Though the delegation had returned without any breakthrough, the Home Minister had expressed satisfaction over the interactions he had in the Valley. (AGENCIES)
