KATHUA, Feb 13: The alert youth of Ward No 19 foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling just one km from DC Office, Kathua late last night.
As per reports, local youth of WNo. 19, Housing Colony, Kathua noticed the suspicious activities of some unknown persons moving in an Alto Car No JK08D 9660 and a Bullet motorcycle in Housing Colony area, connecting route of National Highway. They also noticed the assembling of bovine on one point in a dramatic way.
The youth laid a trap on them during the night hours. The kingpin of bovine smugglers was leading the gang and he was also evading arrest in past bovine smuggling case. The youth chased the smugglers and also informed the Kathua police. A police team reached the spot and succeed in arresting of kingpin of bovine smuggling. But his two associates ran away from the site with a mini truck meant for smuggling.
The police arrested the bovine smuggler identified as Makhan Din @ Chapia, son of Nikka resident of Marheen, Hiranagar. Two vehicles, including an Atlo car and without number Bullet motorcycle were also seized from the spot.
The local youth also raised the protest against the police and district administration for their failure to check the smuggling of bovine within city in day light. The protesting youth Myank Bhagotra and Devinder Chalotra alleged that the local people also noticed the movement of bovine smuggler in this area many a times. They also noticed anti social activities and theft cases also have taken place in the Housing Colony areas in past. The local residents are scared of such elements. But police did not start any patrolling in the area. They demanded to book these elements under PSA and start night patrolling in the area.
