AKHNOOR, Dec 25: The monthly meeting of Akhnoor Ex-Servicemen was held under the chairmanship of Lakhbir Singh, a naval veteran.
As per a statement, key issues concerning the welfare of ex-servicemen, Veer Naaris and widows were discussed during the meeting.
The Chairman briefed attendees on the latest updates regarding various schemes for ex-servicemen.
A two-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to the five soldiers killed in a road accident in Poonch on December 24, 2024, while prayers were offered for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The ex-servicemen raised concerns about the ongoing traffic jams in Akhnoor town, highlighting the difficulties faced by commuters, especially patients, students and employees, who are unable to reach their destinations on time.
Despite repeated requests to the administration for action, they said, no solution has been implemented.
The group urged the concerned authorities to address the issue on priority. Suggestions included widening the existing road or creating an outer road link with a new bridge over the Chenab River near Partap Canal to ease the traffic congestion.

The meeting was conducted by Subedar Major (Retd) Mani Ram Bhagat, General Secretary, who provided a detailed report on the activities undertaken in the past month.
