JAMMU, June 25: The monthly meeting of Akhnoor Ex-Servicemen Association was held here today under the chairmanship of Lakhbir Singh Sohal, naval veteran.
A number of Ex- Servicemen, Veer Naries and widows attended the meeting, wherein various points concerning welfare of Ex-Servicemen were discussed in detail. A review of the points raised with the Lt Governor and Chief Minister during Veteran’s rally in Feb, 2025 at Akhnoor also came up for discussion.
A resolution was passed in the meeting with one voice for changing the name and style of the Association as ” J&K State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association (SEWA)” in order to monitor grievances, welfare schemes and policies specifically meant for Ex- Servicemen in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chairman informed that he recently met the Chief Minister and Advisor to CM in this connection and demanded that a dedicated State Ex-Servicemen Commission be constituted for its function as a statuary body to monitor grievances, welfare schemes and policies specifically meant for Ex-Servicemen. The Chairman also demanded a Sainik Bhavan for the Ex-Servicemen and a bye pass road at Akhnoor.
He said that the CM listened to him attentively and acknowledged certain limitations in fulfilling some of the demands under the current administrative structure due to UT Status of the J&K. The CM further said that on getting the Statehood status in near future, the State Govt would be in a position to address the longstanding and genuine demands of the Ex-Servicemen. The Chairman said all Ex-Servicemen stand by Chief Minister on Statehood demand.
The meeting was conducted by Mani Ram Bhagat. Those who spoke, included Capt Santosh Sharma, Jugal Gupta, Bodh Raj, Kaka Ram, Sham Lal Sharma, Banarsi Lal, Om Parkash, Rajinder Singh, Chain Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Karan Singh, Puran Chand, Parkash Chand, Jagdev Singh, Rameshwar Dutt, Puran Chand, Shanti Swaroop, Subash Chander, Susheel Kumar, Tilak Raj and Romesh Kumar.
