Says terrorist killed in Basantgarh encounter was JeM Comdr Haider

JAMMU, July 16: Police Station Akhnoor in the Jammu district has been adjudged as the best Police Station of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

As per a statement, a total of 17,932 Police Stations across India were evaluated, out of which 76 were shortlisted based on stringent performance criteria.
“And Police Station Akhnoor secured its place among these top-performing stations in the country,” it said.
Praising the feat, Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat congratulated the staff of the Police Station in particular and the people of Akhnoor in general.
“This great achievement signifies the officers and officials of this Police Station have great connect with the people of Akhnoor town, who have always stood for the country,” the DGP said.
“I am also told that people of Akhnoor have always helped the police and other security forces by timely sharing the information about the infiltration attempts from across the border. This practice should continue,” he said.
Replying to another query about the ongoing operations against the terrorists, the top cop said, “These operations will continue until and unless all the terrorists are wiped out from the region.”
He also said that the terrorist recently killed in the Dudu-Basantgarh encounter in the Udhampur district was a top Jaish Commander.
“Recently, our security forces eliminated one of the top most commanders of the Jaish-e-Mohammad, Haider, in Dudu-Basantgarh, who was active in the area for the past 4 years. His killing was a huge success for the forces.”
Earlier, the DGP, accompanied by IGP Jammu Zone, BS Tuti; IGP CRPF Jammu, Gopala K Rao; DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma; DC Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, and SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, along with other police officers, presented awards and certifications to then SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma, then SHO Akhnoor Tariq Ahmed and incumbent SP Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma and SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh for their outstanding leadership and dedication in 2024.
He also extended his best wishes to the current SHO Sanjeev Chib and SDPO Varinder Gupta for continuing the legacy of excellence.
IGP Jammu Zone, BS Tuti, also congratulated the team of Police Station Akhnoor and urged them to maintain the same level of professionalism, commitment, and public service in the future.
Pertinently, the initiative to recognize the best Police Stations was launched in 2015 by the Prime Minister of India during the DGP/IGP Conference held in Kutch, Gujarat. Since then, it has become a regular feature of the Ministry of Home Affairs, aimed at promoting excellence, innovation, and citizen-friendly policing across the nation.
