JAMMU, Nov 7: All J&K Transport Welfare Association Chairman, Karan Singh Wazir today declared that he, like his father, Late T S Wazir, will strongly project the issues of the transporters and other members connected with this industry before the Government and work along with other organisations of Trade and Industry besides High Court Bar Association for the over all welfare of the people of J&K UT.
Addressing a press conference at the Warehouse office of the Association in Jammu today, he declared that his aim was to take along all the Union/Group members and forge unity among all.
Wazir, who was flanked by several presidents of various Bus/ Minibus Unions and scores of Transporters and operators, highlighted how some members of the Transport Unions tried to disrupt his press conference and meeting with the transporters today.
He said this introductory meeting with the transporters primarily was organized to bring transporters together, deliberate on their ongoing struggles, and outline a potential plan of action to address these concerns with Government authorities. He said as per majority of the transporters, former Chairman was working on the behest of the Government ignoring interests of the Transporters and never supported JCCI or Bar Association. Wazir said the new body will work in close coordination with all the Bus/Truck/Tanker and other Unions and above two organizations. Click here to watch video
Association president Vijay Singh Chib said that Late Wazir’s legacy, which encompassed a strong sense of unity among different transport and route unions, was echoed by Karan Singh Wazir as a call for continued cohesion and support among transporters. Other office bearers and representatives from various unions have expressed their support for Karan Singh’s leadership and commitment for addressing the issues of the transporter community, he added.
Chib said despite the good intentions of the meeting/convention, the event was abruptly interrupted by a group of individuals with `alleged’ ties with a former Chairman. The group reportedly attempted to disrupt proceedings and posed a threat to the attendees, with eyewitness accounts suggesting that some members were carrying weapons. This incident escalated tensions and cast a shadow over the purpose of the meeting.
Meanwhile, All J&K Transport Welfare Association has urged immediate legal proceedings against ‘former Chairman’ and some armed persons involved in disrupting the meeting and press conference at the Association office.
