JAMMU, Mar 16: The 72-hour hunger strike called by the All Jammu & Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) at Narsingh Mandir, Jindrah in Nagrota Assembly Constituency entered its second day on Sunday. The agitation is being led by AJKPC president Anil Sharma along with local residents and supporters.
The dharna, which began on Saturday, continued peacefully with people from nearby villages and areas coming to the protest site in large numbers to show their solidarity with the agitating members. The protesters are demanding Sub Division status for Nagrota with a full SDM office, Tehsil status for Jindrah and setting up of a Tehsil Treasury in Dansal block.
Other demands include establishment of proper accident and trauma hospitals in the constituency, construction of a new building for Government Degree College Jindrah, a CBI/ACB probe into damage caused to the existing college building, and filling of all vacant teaching posts in schools and colleges of Nagrota constituency.
AJKPC presidenr said the hunger strike will continue for the remaining period of 72 hours and warned that if the demands are not met, the agitation will be intensified in the coming days. He appealed to the authorities to immediately address the long-pending demands of the people of Nagrota area.
