*Seeks Rs 10 lakh relief for affected families

POONCH, May 8: Ajaz Jan, MLA Haveli constituency, today conducted an extensive tour of the border areas in district Poonch to assess the aftermath of the recent cross-border firing by the Pakistan army. The attack, which occurred last night, tragically claimed the lives of 13 civilians and left more than 60 others injured.
During his visit, the MLA took stock of the current situation and met with the affected residents, particularly those from Sathra whose houses were damaged in the firing. In response, the MLA has relocated the displaced families to the Government Polytechnic College for shelter and relief.
Jan, a senior leader of the National Conference, has demanded that the Government provide compensation of Rs 10 lakhs for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those who have been injured in the firing. He further called on the Tehsil Supply Officers of Poonch and Mandi to ensure an adequate and timely supply of rations for the affected people.
In a significant step toward restoring communication, the MLA confirmed that internet services in the Sabjiyan area have been fully restored. He also acknowledged the effective work of the Party’s Block Committees in coordinating relief efforts.
MLA informed that Fazal Hussain, former Sarpanch, and Ch Shabir, former Sarpanch, have been appointed for ground-level assistance and in arranging food and other essential needs for the affected families.
Jan instructed the Tehsildars of Mandi and Poonch to deploy Naib Tehsildars to assess the damages and assist in the ongoing relief work. He also spoke with the Health Minister to address any shortages in medical supplies and services.
He commended the efforts of District Commissioner (DC) Poonch, SSP Poonch, and Additional SP for their swift response and efficient handling of the crisis, ensuring that necessary help reached the affected families in a timely manner.
