JAMMU, Aug 11: Castigating the Government for not doing much for the people affected by the recent incessant rain spells, Ajaz Jan, former MLA and provincial president of Youth National Conference (YNC) Jammu said that Government should provide adequate compensation to the flood-hit areas and also six months free ration to farmers who have suffered extensive damages to their crops due to weather vagaries.
He said this while chairing a meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan today. The YNC leader said that the Government is unclear about the future plans for J&K and that is the reason there is complete confusion as far as administrative backup is concerned.
Ajaz Jan said that never in the history of J&K, the Government failed to provide the compensation to the catastrophe hit people because timely distribution of the relief is the key to provide succor to the people confronting difficulties but the case under incumbent dispensation is abysmal because despite lapse of so many days the people are still struggling as Government has failed to assess the losses in Poonch and other places.
He said the farmer fraternity has also faced colossal losses and therefore, the Government should provide free ration to them for at least six months to deliver justice. He further demanded that the road infrastructure damaged due to floods and rains especially in the Poonch district should be reconstructed as soon as possible.
The former MLA said as several houses have been damaged due to landslides, Rural Development Department should make protection walls and Bundhs at appropriate sites to ensure that such things do not repeat in future. He demanded the Government to construct damaged houses under PMAY or announce any similar scheme so that the losses faced by the people could be compensated.
