AIRNF seeks permanent recruitment of faculty in J&K nursing colleges

JAMMU, Aug 23: The J&K unit of All India Registered Nurses Federation (AIRNF) has urged the Government to immediately recruit permanent teaching faculty in all 13 Government Nursing Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, in line with Indian Nursing Council (INC) guidelines.
The Federation pointed out that despite functioning for the last three to five years, none of these colleges have regular Principals, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, or Nursing Tutors. Instead, staff nurses from Government hospitals are temporarily deputed to teach, which, according to AIRNF, violates INC norms and compromises the quality of nursing education.
“The Government is playing with the future of these students. They are the backbone of our future healthcare system-how can we expect quality patient care when their education is compromised from day one?” asked Vishav Sharma, State president of AIRNF, J&K.
He said the absence of permanent, qualified faculty directly affects academic standards and leaves aspiring nurses without proper guidance, infrastructure, or learning facilities. He also alleged that favoritism-based deputations often assign unqualified or mismatched personnel for teaching duties, while Government hospitals themselves face staff shortages.
“These students are the upcoming lifeline of our public health institutions. Without permanent, qualified faculty, how will they gain the skills to serve the community effectively? The administration’s silence and delay in recruitment is pushing their future into darkness,” Sharma remarked.
The Federation has appealed to the J&K Government and the Health & Medical Education Department to start the recruitment process without further delay.
