JAMMU, Jan 14: The air and rail operation remained hit as a dense blanket of fog on Wednesday hit normal life in Jammu.
“Due to dense fog, the flight operation remained affected since morning in view of poor visibility,” said an official.
Meanwhile a senior railway official said that the trains are arriving 3 to 4 hours late from their scheduled time as the rail operation is also badly affected due to dense fog in northern parts of the country.
The foggy weather conditions will remain for a few more days while the chilling weather conditions continue, a MeT official said.
He however, said that the minimum temperature recorded on the intervening night of Jan 13-14 in Jammu was 4.0C, Banihal 5.3C, Batote 4.5C, Katra 5.5C, Bhaderwah 0.5C, Kathua 4.2C, Jammu Airport 4.8C, Udhampur 1.0C, Ramban 2.8C, Samba 1.5C, Rajouri 0.6C, Kishtwar 4.3C. Reasi 2.6C and Doda 4.3C.
Due to prevailing harsh cold conditions, the administration has extended the winter vacations in schools till January 14 while many schools are conducting online classes for primary wings.
People in plains of Jammu especially the roadside vendors were seen burning firewood to protect themselves from chilly weather while the business houses have installed warmers and electric heaters to provide respite to the visitors from the harsh weather.
Vehicles moved at snail’s pace on the road with headlights on to avoid accidents due to thick fog.
