AIMPLB goes into a huddle over Triple Talaq Bill

LUCKNOW: Nearly 50 executive committee members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) went into a huddle in the state capital on Sunday to discuss the line of action on the proposed Triple Talaq Bill that is to be tabled in the Parliament on December 26.
The emergency meeting is also expected to discuss prospects of AIMPLB meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and whether the board is for or against the proposed Bill.
Controversial member of Parliament from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi was among the most prominent faces present at the meeting.
AIMPLB executive member Zafaryab Jilani said here in a previous meeting on December 17 in Delhi, the board had decided to convene an emergency meeting of its executive working committee at Lucknow’s Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama on December 24 under the presidentship of Maulana Mohd Rabey Hasani Nadvi.
Jilani said, “The Triple Talaq Bill is on our agenda and after discussion with 50 members AIMPLB will reach a conclusion on its stand over the issue.”
He added, “All issues, including a meeting with the PM, will be discussed by members. General secretary Syed Md Wali Rahmani from Bihar has also come for the meeting.”
Senior vice-president of the board, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, however, is not attending the meeting due to health problems. (AGENCIES)
