JAMMU, June 8: All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) today cautioned the Union Government to take all the aspects of the KP welfare into consideration before preparing the roadmap for their resettlement in Kashmir valley.
Addressing a press conference here, today AIKS general secretary, Dr Ramesh Raina said that before setting any proposal in motion the Government should work for creation of conducive atmosphere and confidence building measures which include passage of Shrines and Temples Bill. “To give control of managing the community’s religious and spiritual centers to the community members assumes more significance for re-connectivity with Kashmir ”, he added.
Dr Raina said KPs have seen seven exoduses during last 700 years which has instilled a sense of insecurity among them therefore this time there is a need for a watertight plan otherwise it will get refueled again.
He said there is a need for political rehabilitation through constitutional means which will enable KPs a long term survival in their homes of origin. He further said that Narendra Modi’s taking over as Prime Minister has accelerated the process of change in India and in the State and it was a good augury for the people of the country. The expectation is that Kashmir policy will have a new look which will encompass all those areas that have remained unattended so far viz fast name changing of important places like Shankracharya to Takht-e-Suleiman, Hari Parbat to Kohi Maran and so on.
He urged the Government to consider the proposals made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee in its 179th report while preparing the roadmap.
Dr Raina complimented Narendra Modi for according priority to this sensitive issue which was treated in almost callous manner and was neglected by the successive Governments though it demanded the utmost respect given its magnitude.
He said with PM’s initiative an atmosphere of optimism has been created all over and it has generated hopes in this beleaguered community. “We have number of issues before us which call for resolution and important being day to day survival and long term settlement of the community”. The community has large number of unemployed youth and some of them have already become over aged and the announcement of 6000 jobs for them in accordance with the promises made earlier would enthuse the younger generation to respond the initiative, he added.
Aryan Ramesh another senior functionary of the organization was also present in the press conference.
