JAMMU, Mar 29: All India Kashmiri Pandit Conference (AIKPC) in its meeting here, today held under the chairmanship of its president, Rajinder Kilm discussed the pressing issues of displaced Pandit community.
The issue of relief holders dominated the meeting particularly those employed in private sector and residing far away from their families.
The meeting said that these individuals, who are striving to sustain their livelihood under challenging circumstances are now confronted with cumbersome process of updating their ration cards and fulfilling formalities.
The meeting expressed concern that the requirement of physical presence at designated ration depots for verification and updates poses a serious hardship to these individuals. For them it is impossible as absence from private jobs may jeopardise employment and financial stability.
The meeting appealed the Chief Secretary and Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner to consider introducing a more flexible, humane and pragmatic approach in the ongoing process, measures such as online verification , extended timelines or decentralised facilities could greatly ease the burden of the affected individuals.
The meeting strongly reiterated that any policy affecting the KP community must be guided not only by administrative convenience but also by compassion, sensitivity and an understanding of ground realities.
