JAMMU, Oct 3: All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) J&K unit president Ch Manmohan Singh today strongly demanded inclusion of Jat community in OBC category.
While addressing a meeting of the community members at Jourian in Akhnoor sector today, the Jat leader said that community has been deprived of many facilities by the Government. He claimed that this community was socially and economically backward and for its welfare and development, the Government must provide ST status to them. He asked the community members to remain united for their common cause.
The public also projected their issues and highlighted several other concerns. They complained that Jats in 11 states had the category but the Jats living in J&K, who were facing troubles while living on borders, deserve benefit of reservation.
Singh said that at this point of time, when the status of our state is in between transition, we need to be strong. The unity of the community will open doors for them. He said, ” Jats hold a considerable percentage in population and thus many will try to mislead our people to pave way for their political agendas and gain benefit from our issues by influencing our people to believe in their false propaganda. But we need to be aware of what we can achieve with our strength,” he added.
He also said that Jat biradari has so many pending issues such as the border fencing, mining on the lands of our farmers without any compensation, the ownership rights of the lands granted to the displaced families and one time settlement of refugees. He said people should come forward with their issues.
The new committees of the Jat community were also framed. Tarsem Choudhary was declared as Tehsil president for Khour and Ch Sham Lal for Jourian. The office bearers were also unanimously elected on the occasion.
