JAMMU, Aug 16: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu has earned a landmark recognition by securing the 7th position in the “Outlook Magazine Government Medical Universities Ranking 2025”, emerging as the second-highest ranked AIIMS after Delhi.
With an overall score of 910.22 out of 1000, the Institute was lauded for its academic and research excellence (385.62/400), robust industry collaborations (188.58/200), advanced infrastructure (133.05/150), effective governance (132.65/150), and commitment to diversity and outreach (70.82/100).
AIIMS Jammu’s rapid growth includes the completion of 43 state-of-the-art buildings, a 1,000-seat convention centre, advanced modular operation theatres, and a fully digital library housing over 13,000 e-journals. It has also introduced pioneering facilities such as a high-end Transfusion Medicine Unit, Green Smart Waterless Lab, and the only Centre for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine across all AIIMS.
Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, credited the achievement to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. “AIIMS Jammu is not just a hospital, it is a beacon of hope, knowledge, and compassionate care for generations to come,” he said.
The Institute has so far treated over 2.6 lakh outpatients, admitted nearly 4,000 patients, managed 15,000 emergencies, and performed 1,800 surgeries. Its academic expansion now includes MBBS (100 seats), BSc Nursing (60 seats), and postgraduate programmes such as MD/MS, MDS, and MCh
Recognized nationally, AIIMS Jammu recently received the “Best Project Award” for its infrastructure development, presented by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar. Visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have further highlighted its transformative impact on regional healthcare.
Looking ahead, AIIMS Jammu is being developed as a “Global Village” for Healthcare, Education, and Research, with Centres of Excellence planned in Cancer, Ophthalmology, Robotic Surgery, Dentistry, and Telemedicine, along with proposals for a CBRN Emergency Centre and an Institute of Paramedical Sciences.
