JAMMU, Mar 25: In a major outreach initiative, AIIMS Jammu today conducted its first-ever awareness programme on voluntary body donation, aiming to educate the public about its importance in medical education and research.
The programme, organized by the Department of Anatomy, focused on encouraging people to take informed decisions and contribute to this humanitarian cause.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof (Dr) D N Sharma, Executive Director and CEO, described body donation as one of the highest forms of service to society.
He said that cadaver-based learning remains the backbone of medical training, enabling students to develop essential clinical skills and confidence.
He further underlined that such donations also support advanced surgical training and research, which ultimately leads to better patient care and a stronger healthcare system.
He appealed to the public to consider body donation as a meaningful legacy of service.
Dr Shalika Sharma, Officiating Head of the Department of Anatomy, said the initiative is aimed at spreading awareness and addressing common myths associated with body donation.
She termed it a selfless act that plays a crucial role in shaping competent doctors and advancing medical science.
Highlighting India’s tradition of sacrifice and service, she said the department seeks to inspire more people to come forward and participate voluntarily.
She added that such efforts will also contribute to strengthening AIIMS Jammu as a centre of excellence.
As part of the programme, first-year MBBS students presented a nukkad natak to engage the audience and convey key messages in an effective manner. Informational pamphlets and pledge forms were also distributed among the participants.
The event was coordinated by the Department of Anatomy team, including Dr Reeha Mahajan, Dr Sushant Swaroop Das, Dr Harsimranjit Singh, Dr Sanjay Rampravesh Mishra, Dr M Ramkumar and Dr Monali Hiwarkar, ensuring smooth conduct of the programme.
