JAMMU, May 25: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and Co-Incharge (Organization), Neeraj Kundan, visited Songli village in Bishnah today to meet with residents and victims affected by a recent lathi-charge, reaffirming the Indian National Congress’ commitment to addressing their concerns.
The visit focused on the community’s demand to relocate a nearby dumping yard, which poses significant health and environmental risks due to its proximity to residential areas. During his visit, Kundan engaged directly with the villagers, listening to their grievances about the dumping yard’s impact on their health, environment and quality of life.
Local residents expressed their frustration over the authorities’ inaction and the violent response to their protests, including the recent lathicharge that left several villagers injured. Kundan condemned the use of force against peaceful protesters and assured the community of the Congress party’s unwavering support in their struggle for justice.
“The people of Songli deserve a safe and healthy living environment. The dumping yard’s location near residential areas is unacceptable, and the Congress party stands firmly with the villagers in their demand for its relocation,” Kundan stated.
He emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of communities and holding authorities accountable for addressing public health concerns. Kundan assured the residents that the Congress party would advocate for their cause at both local and national levels, pressing for immediate action to shift the dumping yard to a non-residential area. He also promised to raise the issue with relevant Government bodies and facilitate dialogue to ensure a swift resolution.
Kundan offered support to the victims of the lathi-charge, pledging assistance for their medical and legal needs. The Congress leader called for unity among the villagers and urged them to remain resilient in their fight for a cleaner and safer environment. “We will work tirelessly to ensure your voices are heard and your demands are met,” Kundan told the residents.
