JAMMU, Aug 5: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has strongly criticized successive Governments in Jammu and Kashmir for depriving Other Backward Classes (OBCs) of their constitutional rights, terming Article 370 as a “dangerous tool” used to snatch justice from the poor.
In a meeting chaired by AIBCU Chairman Mohd Latif Qureshi and attended by Ashiq Hussain Hajam, Lakhbir Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Brij Mehra, Jagdish Verma, SC Verma, Madan Lal, CL Gandhi, Abdul Razaq, Mohd Rashid Fouji, Naresh Kumar, Abid Hussain, Abdul Majid Hajam, MR Bangotra, Prof Kali Dass and others, the organization questioned why the 1992 Supreme Court verdict on the Mandal Commission Report was never implemented in J&K—unlike the rest of the country.
The speakers accused both Congress and BJP of ignoring OBC rights, asserting that Congress failed to honour its early promise of ensuring OBC representation within a few years of the Constitution’s adoption. “Neither Article 370 favoured the poor till 2019, nor has its abrogation brought justice to OBCs,” they said.
Rejecting any move for the restoration of Article 370, the AIBCU demanded implementation of Article 371 in J&K to safeguard jobs and land for state subjects and slammed all political parties for remaining silent on OBC reservations.
