JAMMU, Oct 28: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has opposed 20 % quota claim of Congress leader for Chenab region and expressed concern over acceptance of `Cabinet Sub Committee’ report of the J&K Government on fresh reservation mechanism.
In a meeting of the Union held here today under the chairmanship of Mohd Latif Qureshi, the members expressed strong concern over the government’s acceptance of the Cabinet Sub-Committee’s report, which was later returned and reconsidered following the statement of Chief Minister Umar Abdullah, announcing a proposal to send a fresh memo for a new reservation distribution framework.
The participants and speakers were informed that the AIBCU had already taken up this matter with the Parliament and the Law Department, emphasizing that all reservations granted on the basis of area classifications like RBA, ALC/ IB etc., should not be treated as vertical reservations, as such classifications are both unconstitutional and legally untenable.
Speakers and participants too condemned the statement of senior leader of Indian National Congress Fairoz Khan also former national president of NSUI who is pleading for 20% RBA quota for Chenab valley.
The members reminded Khan that all such reservations on the name of areas are totally unconstitutional and illegal. His statement is too against the policy of Rahul Gandhi (LOP).
The Union reminded that OBCs constitute a hardworking segment of society that continues to face systemic neglect in representation and opportunities.
By extending area-based vertical reservations, the genuine rights and share of OBCs in education, employment, and governance are being unjustly curtailed.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included agdish Verma, Mohd Manir Mughal, Madan Lal, Gurmeet Singh, Mohd Razaq Qureshi, Mohd Rashid, Mohd Sayeed, Farooq Inqlabi, Chaman Lal, MR Bangotra and others.
