JAMMU, Nov 7: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has condemned recent statements by Member of Parliament (MP) Sayed Aga Ruhullah Mehdhi and MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para, who advocated for the abolition of the reservation system in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Organization asserts that reservation is a constitutional right, enshrined in the same Constitution that facilitated these leaders’ election. AIBCU called on Mehdhi and Para to clarify under which clause of Article 370 the rights of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) were historically denied, leading to significant hardships and lost opportunities for multiple generations within these communities. They further questioned the political policies that may overlook the needs of historically disadvantaged groups in J&K.
In a statement, AIBCU Chairman Mohd Latif Qureshi, alongside prominent members such as Jagdish Raj, MR Bangotra, Gurmeet Singh, Som Lal Duah, Prem Bhogal and Prof Kali Dass, demanded that the politicians either retract their statements or resign from their posts. They warned that the OBC communities are prepared to strongly defend their constitutional rights, indicating growing discontent and determination to uphold the reservation system in the face of potential policy shifts.
