JAMMU, Jan 17: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has strongly criticized the BJP Government for failing to deliver on its promises, particularly concerning the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
During a meeting chaired today by AIBCU Chairman Mohd Latif Qureshi, participants condemned the Central Government’s policies, labeling them detrimental to deprived communities.
AIBCU highlighted that OBC scholarships have been discontinued for the past four years, and the Supreme Court’s directive on reservation in promotions, blocked since 2015, remains unimplemented. The Union also criticized the introduction of 10% vertical reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), arguing it undermines constitutionally guaranteed reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs.
Post the abrogation of Article 370, AIBCU claims central reservation rules were not effectively implemented in J&K. They accused the Government of diluting the “Land to the Tillers” law initiated by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, alleging forcible evictions to benefit corporations.
Participants demanded constitutional safeguards similar to Article 371 for J&K to protect land and employment rights for locals. The meeting also saw the appointment of Dimpal Verma from Cheengi Makwal, Ram Kot, as the tehsil president of AIBCU.
The Union urged the Government to prioritize the welfare of marginalized communities and uphold constitutional values, warning against further erosion of their rights.
