Ahead of budget session, Speaker calls APM-cum-BAC on Jan 30

Will seek cooperation, suggestions

JAMMU, Jan 27: Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has called an All Party-cum-Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting on January 30 ahead of budget session of the Legislature beginning February 2.
“It will be a joint All Party and BAC meeting as the BAC too has representatives of almost all political parties,” Rather told the Excelsior.

The meeting has been scheduled at 3 PM on January 30 at the Legislative Assembly Secretariat, he said.
Rather said they will seek suggestions and cooperation from all party members during the meeting for smooth budget session of the Legislature starting February 2 and lasting till April 4 with 22 sittings having over month long break during holy month of Ramzan.
“Smooth Assembly session is in everyone’s interest. This will help the legislators raise issues faced by the public,” the Speaker said.
According to the provisional calendar issued by the Assembly Secretariat, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will deliver address to the Legislature at 10 AM on February 2 while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the budget for 2026-27 financial year and the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025-26 on February 6.
Discussion on Motion of Thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address will start on February 3 and continue for three days. The Chief Minister will reply to the debate on February 5. General discussion on the budget is scheduled for February 7, 9 and 10, followed by a reply from the Chief Minister.
As per the tentative calendar, seven days have been earmarked for the demand of grants between February 11 and 19, after which the Assembly will go into recess for one month and eight days. The session will resume on March 27 when the budget will be taken up for passing in the form of Appropriation bills.
As per calendar, March 28 and April 4 are reserved for Government business. March 30 and April 1 are set aside for Private Member Bills, while March 31 and April 2 are for Private Member Resolutions.
The provisional calendar issued by the Assembly Secretariat will be placed before the Business Advisory Committee for finalization. The budget session will have a total of 22 sittings including 15 in first half and seven in second half.
