JAMMU, Oct 1: Jammu and Kashmir Agricultural Students Association today launched a symbolic chain hunger strike to resent the Government’s alleged indifferent attitude towards their long pending demands.
They are demanding 50:50 ratio in recruitment as per SRO-179 for Agricultural Extension Officer (Gazetted Cadre Post) Technical, immediate referral of vacant posts of JKPSC as per the direct recruitment quota which have not been referred since 2008 and revocation of SRO-442 (100 percent departmental promotions) for non-gazetted entry level technical posts.
The chain hunger strike, from 11 AM to 6 PM daily, is being observed at the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near main Tawi Bridge. The protesting Agricultural Technocrats were holding in their hands banners and placards with slogans.
“For several months, were have been submitting memoranda and holding peaceful protests seeking dialogue over our genuine demands, but the Government has failed to respond,” they said.
Stating that the chain hunger strike is a symbolic protest to express resentment, the Agricultural Technocrats warned that if the Government does not consider their demands within stipulated time, they will be left with no option other than to intensify the agitation to be followed by fast unto death.
