SRINAGAR, Oct 23: With the issue of the odd working hours for the nurses of SKIMS Soura remaining unresolved, the hospital administration has sought an explanation from nurses after they took up the issue with a political leader.
After the meeting-along with other representatives with a BJP leader here, the hospital administration issued an explanation against two nurses, stating that they had misrepresented facts before the leader and warned of disciplinary action.
It is to be mentioned here that the nurses at SKIMS Soura are up against the hospital administration for implementing, what they stated, odd duty hours (three-tier duty system).
To press for the implementation of general duty shifts (two-tier), the nurses earlier staged a protest, following which four of the staff nurses were suspended. Before that, 3 more were suspended for allegedly ‘instigating’ the nursing staff.
“It has been reported that you have misrepresented the facts regarding the implementation of 3 tier duty roster at SKIMS before a political leader. The 3 tier duty roster has been implemented at SKIMS in view of outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and enforcement of Disaster Management Act. The SKIMS authorities have taken a serious note of it and decided to take disciplinary action against you,” the explanation issued against Nusrat Fazili and Asmeena by the hospital administration read.
The aggrieved nurses have so far given at least 4 representations to the SKIMS hospital administration requesting them to address their issues, however, the nurses said that they have not been given any reply so far.
“It is because of that (no response from the administration), the nurses went to someone and raised the issue with them, but in response, they got an explanation,” a nurse wishing anonymity said.
They said that they will not budge until the SKIMS administration takes a notice of the issues that they are facing. “We are suffering, and instead of listening to us, they are either suspending people or are seeking explanations,” they said.
The Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Atal Dullo said that the matter is internal to the SKIMS. He, however, said that he will take up the issue with the hospital administration.
Meanwhile, after not getting any response from the office of the Director, SKIMS regarding their back to back representation, the agitated nurses have now sent a civil notice-through their counsel-to the hospital administration seeking reply within 7 days.
