SRINAGAR, June 22: Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar, who assumed office today reviewed the security situation in the Valley with top officers of civil and police administration here. Immediately after assuming office as Advisor to the Governor, Kumar reviewed the security situation with the top police brass during a meeting here, which was attended among others by J&K Home Secretary, RK Goyal and Director General of Police, Dr SP Vaid.
During the meeting, detailed discussion was held on the prevailing security situation in Kashmir, official sources said.
Kumar stressed on close synergy between security agencies for maintaining peace.
Regarding the security in jails, he asked for better security management of prisons viz-a-viz modern gadgetry and infrastructure, sources said.
The Home Secretary and the DGP gave detailed briefing to the Advisor on prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir including the hinterland, Line of Control (LoC), International Border (IB) and general law and order situation.
Regarding security in Jails, the Advisor asked for better security management of Prisons viz-a-viz modern gadgetry and infrastructure.
Kumar was till recently holding the post of Senior Security Advisor to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
Kumar, a 1975 batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, had earlier served in the Kashmir valley as Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF) in 1998-2001 when the border guarding force was actively involved in the counter-militancy operations.
He also served as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) between 2010 and 2012, before he was appointed as a Senior Security Advisor in MHA. In 2008, Kumar had worked as head of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, new Chief Secretary of the State, BVR Subrahmanyam, has called a meeting with all Administrative Secretaries at 12.30 pm tomorrow in the Civil Secretariat.
This will be his first meeting with the Administrative Secretaries in which he would inter-act with the bureaucrats and review developmental works in the State besides some other issues faced by the administration.
Subrahmanyam, a Chhattisgarh cadre officer was appointed new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir following imposition of Governor’s rule in the State in place of BB Vyas, who has been posted as Advisor to the Governor.
Subrahmanyam was presently posted as Additional Chief Secretary (Home) in Chhattisgarh and had earlier served in the Prime Minister’s Office during the tenure of Dr Manmohan Singh in UPA-II and present Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
