Adm to curb overcharging by cab operators in Gulmarg

Srinagar, Mar 26: In order to curb overcharging by the Taxi operators in Gulmarg, the administration is fixing rates for the cab operators and the rate list will be made public soon.
The cab operators had been overcharging the visitors in Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Drung areas for decades and finally Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) is trying to fix the issue.
The CEO Gulmarg Waseem Raja said that the rates would be fixed for Union cabs at Gulmarg and Tangmarg. The RTO Kashmir who was present in the meeting assured that the rate list will be made public soon which would be effectively implemented with strict enforcement and under the proper vigil of the local police.
A helpline from RTO, CEO Gulmarg will also be made public for registering any complaints.
CEO also instructed the president of Taxi Union Associations at Tangmarg to identify the spots for pre-paid taxi counters both at Tangmarg and Gulmarg for any union cab bookings.
Earlier a meeting was convened by the CEO regarding fixation of Cab rates and setting up of prepaid counters at Gulmarg and Tangmarg.
The meeting attended by Transporters from Tangmarg and Gulmarg, Travel trade fraternity and government functionaries was held primarily for the fixation of cab Rates for Gulmarg, Tangmarg and Drung sightseeing.
The RTO Kashmir attended the meeting as a special invitee. The meeting was also attended by other senior officers including ARTO Sopore, Tehsildar Gulmarg, SHO Tangmarg, Tourist officer Gulmarg, President Union Taxi stand Tangmarg.
The representatives of travel trade and tourism stakeholders gave their inputs and shared their concerns regarding instances of overcharging by union taxi operators and issues regarding harassment of tourists by some guides within and around Gulmarg.
They also appreciated the action taken by CEO Gulmarg against unregistered guides recently. It may be mentioned here that last week a major drive was initiated against the unregistered guides who were harassing the tourists in Gulmarg.
