ACR’s clerk caught taking Rs 4000 bribe

RAJOURI, Aug 8: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today caught a clerk in the office of ACR Rajouri, having additional charge of the post of Junior Assistant in the office of Sub Registrar, Rajouri while accepting Rs 4000 bribe, red-handed here today.
Official sources said that ACB received a complaint alleging that complainant has to register three marlas of land on his name in the office of ACR Rajouri for which he had submitted the file with the concerned clerk having additional charge of Junior Assistant, Sub Registar Rajouri namely Umar Nawaz but he demanded bribe of Rs 5,000 for the same.
Subsequently, the said demand was negotiated to Rs 4,000. Since the complainant is a poor person and did not want to give illegal gratification to the above named clerk, he approached ACB for taking legal action against the accused public servant.
Accordingly, case FIR No. 04/2025 u/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered in ACB Police Station Rajouri and investigation taken up.
During investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused public servant Umar Nawaz, son of Naseer Hussain, resident of Saaz village, in Tehsil Thannamandi.
The accused is presently posted as Junior Assistant/ JA in the office of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rajouri (Nazir Section) with additional charge of the post of Junior Asstt. Sub-Registrar, Rajouri. He was caught red- handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 4000.
The accused Umar Nawaz was arrested on the spot by the Anti Corruption team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses/ Magistrate associated with the trap team.
Subsequently, searches were also conducted in the residential house of the accused at Thannamandi, Rajouri. Further, investigation of the instant case is going on.
