Acrobatic Vipul steals show; lifts men’s singles title in style

JAMMU, Aug 27: Ace stuttler and defending champion Vipul Saini stole the show by lifting the men’s singles title in style, displaying fluidity, grace, brilliance, acrobatics, motor-ability and what at what not and defeated talented Sahil Verma in a one-sided contest by (21-07, 21-10) in the summit clash of the ongoing 27th Jammu District Badminton Championship, which was concluded at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
The Championship was organized by Jammu District Badminton Association, under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association.
Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up shuttlers on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dilbag Singh, IGP Jammu and president Jammu District Badminton Association, S Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports, Dalip Thussu, Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Dr OD Sharma, General Secretary,  J&K Badminton Association, Durga Dass Magotra, Chief Referee of the tournament, Som Raj Gupta, Organising Secretary, Balbir Singh Jamwal, General Secretary Jammu District Badminton Association, Ashok Singh, Manager Indoor Complex, Satpal Sharma, badminton coach and Vikram Singh, member organizing committee.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lavished praise on the organizers and said that such championships serve as a launching pad for the budding players to make it to the higher levels.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles title clash, Vipul Saini and Sahil Verma defeated the pair of Vasu and Aman by (21-14, 21-11) to reign the crown.
In other final matches played today, defending champion Ramesh Sharma trounced Anil Gurkha by (21-19, 23-21) to lift the veteran title, while in Under-19 boys doubles title clash, the pair of Sunil and Munish outplayed Shantul and Arjun by (21-17, 21-18) to win the title.
The Under-13 girls singles title went to Naman by defeating Peehushi in the final, while in Under-13 girls doubles, Naman and Peehushi outclassed Shveta and Mridila Rahote. In Under-17 girls singles, Mitakshra toppled Rupal to win the title, while in Under-17 girls doubles, the pair of Subhagani and Mitakshra got better of Sneha and Rupal to claim the trophy. The Under-19 girls singles title went to Prabjot, who toppled Keerat Prêet by (21-15, 21-14) in an easy contest, while in Under-19 girls doubles final, Dikha  and Prabjot prevailed upon Rupal and Mitakshra by (21-15, 21-05).
