JAMMU, Feb 6: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu, has trapped an Assistant Sub Inspector of the Police Department for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in district Jammu.
ASI Mohinder Lal, posted at Police Station Khour, has been arrested and booked in case FIR number 02/2026 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for allegedly demanding illegal gratification from the complainant for taking action in a case related to harassment and assault of the complainant’s cousin sister by her husband, an ACB official said.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, he said, the complainant approached the ACB, following which a discreet verification was conducted that confirmed the demand.
According to him, a trap team was then constituted, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
Accordingly, he was arrested on the spot and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession, the ACB official said.
He said a search was also conducted at his official residence located within the Police Station Khour premises in the presence of a Magistrate.
Meanwhile, further investigation in the case is in progress, added the ACB official.
