ACB raids PWD Nowshera office, other locations

JAMMU, Nov 13: Sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today raided office of the Executive Engineer (Xen) Public Works (R&B) Division, Nowshera and some other locations in connection with the alleged irregularities/violations in the allotment of tender works in the Division.

Official sources said that a team of ACB led by an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police arrived in the office of Executive Engineer, R&B Division, Nowshera at around 11.15 am today and started its operation. They closed the main gate of the office and restricted the movement of visitors and officials working inside the office to outside.
The sources revealed that the team collected the record of tender works allotted during last about five years by the officers/engineers of the Division during their operation of about two hours. They also conducted searches in the official/private residences of a few officials connected with the tender works.

Though the visiting ACB team refused to take the questions of the waiting media-persons outside the main gate of the R&B office, yet the `insiders’ said that they sought record pertaining to allotment of tender works of the last five years in the Division.
It is pertinent to mention here that there was a major uproar in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over the scam in Nowshera R&B Division after a report was published in this newspaper.
Sources further revealed that Anti-Corruption Bureau also conducted raids at the residences of several engineers in Nowshera, Rajouri and Poonch, as well as at the premises of multiple contractors. During the operation, the ACB reportedly seized several important documents related to the allotted tender works and payments etc.
