ACB produces chargesheet against Patwari, associate in bribery case

SRINAGAR, June 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against a serving and a retired Patwari in a bribery case.
The chargesheet has been produced in case FIR number 15/2022 before the court of Additional Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar against accused Jamil Hussain Khan, then Patwari Halqa Baghat-e-Shoor, Owanta Bhawan, Soura, tehsil Eidgah and his associate Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, a retired Patwari, an ACB official said.
He said while Jamil Hussain was charged under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120-B of the IPC, his associate was booked under section 12 of the Prevention of the Corruption Act and section 120-B of the IPC.
According to him, the case was registered after a complainant alleged that the duo demanded a bribe of Rs 9,000 for processing land-related revenue documents.
Following verification, the ACB laid a trap on April 11, 2022, and recovered the bribe money from the possession of the accused, the ACB official said.
Accordingly, after completing the investigation and obtaining sanction from the competent authority, the chargesheet was produced for judicial proceedings, he said.
Notably, Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat had earlier been convicted in a corruption case registered in 2009.
The court has fixed August 13, 2025, as the next date of hearing.
