SRINAGAR, Dec 16: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu and Kashmir, today filed a chargesheet before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar against a former Sarpanch accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 9000.
An ACB official said the chargesheet has been filed against Mohammad Muzaffer Rather, then Sarpanch, Manigam Ganderbal, in case FIR number 13/2023 registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Srinagar.
According to him, the FIR was registered on September 1, 2023 on the basis of a written complaint, alleging demand of Rs 9000 as bribe for affecting settlement between the complainant and his sister over a property dispute.
He said a trap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
Based on the facts and circumstances together with cogent evidences brought on record, the investigation established the commission of offence under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 against the accused public servant, he said.
The ACB official added that after obtaining the requisite sanction for prosecution from the Government, the charge-sheet was presented before the designated ACB court in Srinagar today for judicial determination with March 2 set as next date of hearing in the matter.
