ACB nabs two Patwaris taking bribe

JAMMU, July 25: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested two revenue officials in separate bribery cases in Jammu and Doda districts.
An ACB official said in the first case, Chuni Lal, a Patwari posted in Patwar Halqa Dansal in Jammu district, was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20,000 as bribe.
He had allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from a complainant for providing a demarcation report.
The ACB official said after negotiations, the accused agreed to accept Rs 75,000 and demanded Rs 25,000 as the first instalment.
“However, unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB,” he said.
After verification of the complaint, the ACB official said a case was registered under FIR number 15/2025 at Police Station ACB Jammu.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested while he was accepting Rs 20,000 bribe in the presence of independent witnesses, he said.
Following the arrest, he said, searches were also conducted at the office and the house of accused’s in-laws.
In the second case, the ACB official said, Ashok Kumar, a Patwari posted in Patwar Halqa Batote in Doda district, was arrested for demanding Rs 50,000 and accepting Rs 40000 in bribe from a complainant for registered a ‘virasati intiqal’ (inheritance mutation) on ancestral land.
According to the ACB official, the complainant in this case had approached ACB after the demand was made.
“Following verification, a case FIR number 04/2025 was registered at ACB Police Station Doda and a trap team arrested the accused on-the-spot while accepting the bribe,” he said.
“The money was recovered in the presence of independent witnesses,” he further said.
Meanwhile, investigation in both cases is underway.
