KATHUA, June 30: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Patwari posted in Thuthay Chak area of Hiranagar Tehsil for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.

As per an ACB official, the accused, Liaquat Ali, had allegedly demanded Rs 1,00,000 from a complainant for attesting a land mutation in favour of the complainant’s wife.
After negotiation, he said, the amount was reduced to Rs 70,000 to be paid in two installments.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the ACB official said, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted discreet verification and found the allegations credible.
Following this, a case was registered under FIR number 13/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Jammu, he said.
Accordingly, he said, a trap team led by a Gazetted Officer was formed, which caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 30,000 as the first instalment.
The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, said the ACB official.
The accused was arrested on-the-spot, and a search was also conducted at his residence in Kishanpur, Dungara area of Billawar, under the supervision of a Magistrate and independent witness, he said, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
