SAMBA, Nov 3: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe in Samba district.
Sources said the ACB team led by DSP Suranjit Singh laid a trap and apprehended Sunil Verma, Patwari of the Badheri Patwar area, while he was taking a bribe in his private office.
Later, the team conducted a search of his office and formally arrested him, they said.
Sources said that the Deputy Commissioner Samba Ayushi Sudan had on October 29 ordered a reshuffle of Patwaris, transferring Sunil Verma from Badheri to Katli Patwar area.
However, he had not yet joined his new posting and was allegedly working on pending files at his private office when the ACB team caught him.
Sources added that the exact amount of bribe money is being verified, though preliminary inputs suggest that it could be a significant sum.
Further investigation is underway, they said.
